Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 2026
This privacy policy explains how geticon.dev, operated by Limely Ltd ("we", "us", "our"), collects, stores, uses and protects your data when you use our service or visit our website. We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
If you have any questions or anything isn't clear, contact us at hello@limely.co.uk.
What is UK GDPR?
The UK General Data Protection Regulation is the UK's data protection framework, retained from EU law following Brexit. It governs how organisations collect, store and process personal data of individuals in the United Kingdom. The regulation strengthens individual rights over personal data and places clear obligations on businesses that handle it.
Who does this policy apply to?
- Visitors to our website at geticon.dev
- Developers and businesses using the geticon.dev API
- Anyone who contacts us via email or social media
What data do we collect?
geticon.dev is a free, anonymous API — no account or API key is required. We may collect:
- IP addresses (standard server/CDN access logs)
- Domain names submitted to the API (e.g.
github.com) - Analytics data about how visitors use our website
- Information you provide if you contact us directly (name, email, message)
We do not collect names, email addresses or any personally identifying information through normal API usage. We do not require sign-up and we do not set tracking cookies for API consumers.
How we collect your data
- Automatically, through standard server and CDN access logs when you use the API or visit the site
- Through analytics tools when you browse our website
- When you email or otherwise contact us directly
How we use your data
- To operate and improve the geticon.dev service
- To cache and serve icon lookups efficiently
- To monitor for abuse, errors, and service health
- To improve our website through analytics
- To respond to enquiries you send us directly
We do not sell your data or pass it to third parties for marketing purposes.
Lawful basis for processing
- Legitimate interest — processing access logs and domain lookups is necessary to operate the service securely and reliably
- Consent — where you have given clear consent, such as submitting a contact form
- Legal obligation — where processing is necessary to comply with a legal requirement
How we store your data
All data is stored electronically using secure, password-protected systems. We use the following platforms:
- Vercel — website hosting and serverless functions
- Cloudflare — CDN, caching and access logs
- Neon / PostgreSQL — icon metadata database
- Vercel Blob — SVG icon storage
- Google Workspace — email and internal file storage
Access to data is restricted to authorised team members only. All accounts are protected with strong passwords and two-factor authentication where available.
Data retention
Server access logs are retained for up to 90 days. Domain and icon metadata stored in our database is retained indefinitely to power the cache, but contains no personally identifying information. If you contact us directly, we retain that correspondence for up to 12 months unless you request deletion sooner.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the following rights:
- Right of access — you can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Right to rectification — you can ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Right to erasure — you can ask us to delete your personal data
- Right to restrict processing — you can ask us to limit how we use your data
- Right to data portability — you can request your data in a machine-readable format
- Right to object — you can object to processing based on legitimate interests
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@limely.co.uk. We will respond within 30 days.
Data breaches
In the unlikely event of a data breach involving your personal data, we will notify you and the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach, in accordance with UK GDPR requirements.
Cookie policy
The geticon.dev API itself does not set cookies. Our marketing website may use the following:
- Essential cookies — required for the website to function correctly
- Analytics cookies — to understand how visitors use our website so we can improve it
You can control and disable cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect the functionality of our website.
